The Consul General of Islamic Republic of Iran based at Quetta Seyed Hassan Yahyavi on Tuesday said Iran was ready to inject 1000 MW electricity to Pakistani transmission line through Taftan with immediate effect. Addressing a news conference he emphasised the need to boost trade between Pakistan and Iran from $1.5 billion to $5 billion. He said Iran had constructed gas pipeline to supply natural gas to Pakistan and India was ready to start gas supply to them adding that now it depended on these two countries as when they want to see the project operational. He said Iran was ready to invest in the industrial and infrastructural sectors in Pakistani province of Balochistan. He viewed a joint summit of three countries-Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan to be held next month would find out resolution to difficulties and problems being faced by war-torn Afghanistan. He said measures were being taken to further strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran. He said Pakistani and Iranian border forces crossed border from each sides whenever they chased smugglers involved in smuggling of narcotics, cattle and human trafficking.
